Round 2 of Tubes

DJ went in today for his second round of ear tubes. He had them put in Dec 29 2008 and a few months ago one of them started coming out and the ear infections started again and he had two back to back. Our ENT recommended we put the tubes back in and we agreed as he did not have one single infection all of last year. He also recommended we get his adenoids out if they are enlarged which can cause infections also. But we decided not to get them out and actually when the doc checked them today they were normal size so they wouldn't have take them out anyways. I kinda freaked today when they told me if we did want to take them out DJ would have to have an IV and a breathing tube...vs just the gas mask for just the tubes. So that was a relief he wasn't getting that done now, as i need more time to prepare for those types of things..heee! But we woke DJ up at 6am today, which he woke up great, but of course wanted to eat and we were able to talk him out of it. Got to the office which was pretty much across the street, unlike last time we had to go all the way down town. We hung out in the prep room and he did great w/ the nurses. It was a lot harder this time since it was a bit older..he didn't want to put the gown on and did cry when they rolled him away...last time he didn't make a peep. We were also waiting a little longer than last time we recalled...by the time we got sat in the waiting room they were calling us back in..but this time it was probably a good 30min. He didn’t wake up as bad as last time initially but once we got home he had the weird melt down, uncontrollable/inconsolable and wanted somthn then didn't then did again and back and forth for an hour, so seems it was just delayed this time!:) The doc told us that he had one tube that had partially fallen out but had A LOT of fluid and wax built up behind it..so thankfully that was cleaned out! He said this definitely could be affecting his hearing, but i swear this kid has no trouble hearing anything or talking, but who knows. :) Then his other ear, the tube hadn’t fallen out yet, but they wanted to replace it..but when they pulled it out, the hole was too big for the tube so they had to like “patch it” , they call it, to basically fill in the hole around the new tube…ugh! Fun, fun! It’s definitely worth it to prevent the ear infections and atleast he has no clue what is going on! But now he has to have the drops which are a lot harder at this age to do and keep him still and then he also has to have cotton balls in his ears for bath which is hard to convince him at this age to keep in! But he did seem to be in much better spirits the rest of the day than over the weekend..hopefully that was the reason for his recent uptick of defiance...hmm ya right..well i can hope :)
